1. India is the world’s second-largest English speaking country.

India claims to be the world’s second-largest English-speaking country. As India is the second-largest country with the highest population, even the no. of people’s speaking English is 10% India is the world’s second-largest English Speaking Country after the US 🙂 (Actually, Because of Population)

2. Gathering of people for Kumbh Mela is visible from space.

Kumbh Mela- The first image comes in our mind after hearing this name is ‘Crowd of too many peoples.’ Yeah, Kumbh Mela is Hindu pilgrimage of faith in which Hindus gather to bathe in a holy river. The 2011 Kumbh Mela was the largest gathering of people with over 75 million pilgrims. The gathering was so huge that the crowd was visible from space.

3. The wettest inhabited place in the world.

In the whole world Mawsynram, a village in the hill of KhasiMeghalaya receives the highest recorded average rainfall. Cherrspunji is also a part of Meghalaya also holds the record for the most rainfall in the year 1861.

4. Bandra Worli Sealink has steel wires which are equal to the earth’s circumference.

The Bandra–Worli Sea Link is a cable-stayed bridge with pre-stressed concrete-steel viaducts on either side that links Bandra in the Western Suburbs of Mumbai with Worli in South Mumbai.
The total length Bandra–Worli is 5.6 kilometer and its height is 126 meters. It is true engineering and architectural marvel.

5. The highest cricket ground in the world is in India.

The erstwhile royal family of Patiala owns the cricket ground and a polo ground which is at an altitude of 2,250m. It is the world’s highest cricket ground. The Chail cricket ground in Chail, Himachal Pradesh on the highest ground in the world and it was built in 1893 and now it is a part of Chail Military School.

6. Diamonds were first mined in India.

It’s really amazing. Diamond mining in India is done from ancient times. First Diamonds were found in India. India was the only producer of Diamond until 1726 when Brazil found Diamonds. That’s why India has not been a major diamond-producing country since the 1700s. Actually, India is still full of Diamonds.

7. The Indian national Kabaddi team has won all Kabaddi World Cups.

The 5 World cup tournament of Kabaddi which was held till now all are won by Indian men’s Kabaddi team without losing any match in the tournament. Also, the Indian women’s Kabaddi team had also won all Kabaddi World cups held till now.

8. Water on the moon was discovered by India.

India’s ISRO Chandrayaan– 1 by using its Moon Mineralogy Mapper detected water on the moon in September 2009 for the first time. In Science magazine, it is also reported that the Moon Mineralogy Mapper on the ISRO Chandrayaan-1 had detected water on the Moon.

9. Science day in Switzerland is dedicated to Ex-Indian President: A.P.J Abdul Kalam.

In honor of A.P.J Abdul Kalam, Switzerland government has declared May 26 as the Science day of Switzerland. Because on 26 May 2005 A.P.J Abdul Kalam visited Switzerland.

10. India’s first President only took 50% of his salary.

When Dr.Rajendra Prasad was appointed as the President of India, he always owned 50% of his salary claiming that he doesn’t need more than that. In the last 12th year of his tenure, he only took 25% of his salary. Never did he accepted from any gift from his fellow men also he didn’t allow anyone to bring gifts at his grand daughter’s wedding.

11. The first rocket in India was transported on a cycle.

The first rocket was transported on a bicycle to the Thumba Launching Station in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. And it is because the first rocket was light on weight and small too.

12. There is a Reverse Waterfall in Kavalshet Point.

Yeah, it’s reverse 🙂 Reverse waterfall and more than 10 waterfalls at a place are the main attraction of the Kavalshet point. Reverse waterfall means during the rainy season if there is a wind flow in a valley than the water which is falling is coming up and it looks like water is coming up. You can see this reverse waterfall in the month of June and July during heavy rains with the wind.

13. A floating post office.

India has 1, 55,015 post offices and it is the largest number of post offices in the world. A single post office on average serves a population of 7,175 people. Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir is one of the most popular and beautiful destinations in India. It is famous among tourists and has several attractions. India’s first floating post office was started in August 2011.

14. The largest number of vegetarians in the world.

Again India’s Beauty. Do you know?  India has the largest number of vegetarians than the rest of the world.  It would be because of religion or personal choices or both. Around 20-40% of Indians are vegetarians. And they are making their demands of having a meat-free supermarket.

15. The world’s largest producer of milk.

In 2012, the largest producer of milk and milk products was India followed by the United States of America, China, Pakistan, and Brazil. India recently reached over 132.4m tons in 2014 and overtook the European Union.

16. The first country to consume sugar.

The basic need in the morning to add it to our special Tea. 😉 Sugar has been produced in the Indian subcontinent since ancient times. India was the first country to develop extraction and purifying techniques of sugar.

17. The human calculator.

Shakuntala Devi was an Indian writer and mental calculator given this title after she demonstrated the calculation of two 13 digit numbers: 7,686,369,774,870 × 2,465,099,745,779 which were picked at random. She answered correctly within 28 seconds.

18. Astronaut Rakesh Sharma said, “Saare Jahan Se Accha Hindustan Humara” from space.

I think you already know this, but I love this one Very Much. When Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi asked the first Indian in space, Rakesh Sharma, about how India looked from space. His response was our famous patriotic song, “Saare Jahaan Se Accha.”

19. Havell’s is purely an Indian brand & named after its first owner.

Havell’s LED 😉 It was the company bought for just 10 lakh Rupees a long time ago and is now a multi-billion electrical goods company(Isn’t it amazing?), it’s an Indian company and is still named after its original owner, Haveli Ram Gupta. 🙂 (It’s Indian)

20. Snakes and Ladders originated in India.

(SaapSidhi) Our child friend Snakes and Ladders(Game) was actually originated in India. And it’s real name is Moksha Patamu 🙂 It was later commercialized and has become one of the most popular board games in the world.
